The only gate on the city’s western side, Jaffa Gate is the most popular one today for Jewish residents and tourists. The Arabs call this the “Gate of the Friend,” because the road leading from it to the south goes to Hebron, the burial place of Abraham, the one known as God’s friend (2 Chr. 20:7; Isa. 41:8; James 2:23).
